Basic Information

🍽️ DHA Phase 2 Food Street (The “London Style” District)

This is the most talked-about spot in Karachi right now. The local government has redesigned this commercial hub to resemble a high-end European street.

  • Vibe: Modern infrastructure with wide, pedestrian-friendly footpaths, stylish street lamps, and outdoor benches. It is often compared to London’s high streets or Taksim Square in Turkey.

  • Safety: It is considered one of the most secure areas for tourists, with a heavy presence of private security and a very “civilized” crowd.

  • Best For: Food photography, social media reels, and a safe outdoor evening walk.

🍕 What to Eat here?

You can find a mix of everything from high-end cafes to local street food:

  • A One Snack: Famous for its local “Rolls” and snacks—a Karachi staple.

  • International Brands: You will find familiar names like KFC and Pizza Hut, along with artisanal coffee shops.

  • Local BBQ: Plenty of spots for authentic Chicken Tikka and Malai Boti.

💡 Quick Tips for Tourists

  • Transportation: Use ride-hailing apps like Uber or  InDriveYangoBykea, and Liftee. They are reliable and will take you exactly to the “DHA Phase 2 Extension Market.”

  • Dress Code: While DHA is liberal, a “Smart Casual” look is best.

  • Parking: Phase 2 has dedicated parking lanes, but it gets crowded on Saturday nights. Valet parking is available at most Do Darya restaurants.

  • Connectivity: Most cafes in Phase 2 offer free Wi-Fi, and the area has excellent 4G/5G coverage.

History
History of DHA Phase 2 Food Street
Early Origins (1950s - 1980s): The area where the Food Street stands today was originally part of the Pakistan Defence Officers Cooperative Housing Society, established in the mid-1950s. What we now call "Phase 2" was designed to provide a central commercial hub (The 'A' Market) for the first residents of the Defence area. For decades, it served as a quiet local market known for reliable grocery stores and a few legendary local snack bars.

The Commercial Evolution (1990s - 2010s): As Karachi expanded, DHA Phase 2 became a bridge between the old city and the new Defence phases. The commercial area evolved into a culinary "melting pot." It became home to Karachi’s most famous "rolls" and BBQ shops, making it a nightly ritual for families to grab a quick bite in their cars.

The "London Style" Transformation (2024 - 2025): The most significant chapter in its history began in late 2024. To modernize the city's image, the local authorities launched a massive "Urban Revitalization" project. The old, cluttered market streets were transformed into a European-style pedestrian zone.

Infrastructure: Wide brick footpaths, international-standard street lighting, and open-air seating were introduced.

Design: The project was inspired by London’s high streets and Istanbul’s pedestrian districts, creating the first "Safe Walking Food Street" in Karachi’s history.
